Kyle Davis, the Assistant Operations Manager of Adventure Partners, was kind enough to share his experience working with us to provide the team with benefits.

Let's Get to Know Kyle Davis

What do you do for fun?

I grew up in a small town and love outdoor activities like hiking, climbing, biking, paddleboarding, rappelling, and camping. My dad enjoyed swimming, and my mom loved walking, so we spent a lot of time outside. I am also a huge movie fan. There's something about just relaxing for two hours in a dark theater that is exciting!

What about work is fun?

The best thing about work is integrating what I would normally do for fun and turning it into a real job! There are challenging days, but staying in an outdoor environment and meeting like-minded, passionate people makes everything flow smoothly, and I truly love what I do.

Whether professionally or personally, what is one thing you’re proud of that happened recently?

On a personal level, having a one-year-old daughter has been the biggest change in my life. It's amazing to watch her grow and to see her progression of turning into this really playful individual. Professionally, we recently got our benefits in January, which is a huge step for us. It allows us to better care for our employees and hopefully keep them around long term.

What advice would you give yourself at age 18?

Life isn't as linear as what you think. Things come in different stages and different times, and people go through different experiences at their own pace. As a kid, I envisioned traditional roles like a doctor or police officer, but I always loved the outdoors. If someone had told me at eight that I could become a professional hiker and repeller and get my Coast Guard captain's license, I would have been thrilled. While college was valuable, there are now many self-educational paths. In today's world of influencers and content creators, you can choose your own direction and pursue what you love.

What’s your favorite season, and why?

I love the fall because of the great weather. Living in Arizona and Utah, summer hiking can be tough, with temperatures hitting 106 degrees, but come September through November, it's a perfect 63 degrees. The fall colors are beautiful, and you can start your hike in a North Face puffy and switch to a T-shirt by afternoon. Fall feels like a culmination of the year, offering a time for reflection and a break from the busier seasons.

The Value of Offering Benefits to Your Team

Why is it important to you to be able to offer benefits to your employees?

Providing benefits is crucial for our team, as we rely on our physical, emotional, and mental health to perform well. Knowing our employees have support, whether for a common cold or a broken ankle, offers a sense of security. In our small company, we see each other daily and have formed close bonds over the years, like a family. These benefits show that our company is growing in the right direction, valuing and supporting the people who have helped us succeed. It's important that our team can live their lives without worrying about medical issues.

What does it mean to your employees to have benefits available?

It offers peace of mind. Health issues often come unexpectedly, so it's reassuring that our guides have coverage beyond just workers' comp. Whether they need medical attention outside of work or preventive care like Vision and Dental, it's great to see them already taking advantage of these benefits.

What was the greatest challenge of being able to offer benefits to your team?

Navigating the marketplace and finding the right providers can be challenging, especially in a small town like ours in Utah, where most employees live just across the border in Arizona. It’s tough to find a network that meets our needs while also considering costs. We want to do the right thing for our employees, but narrowing down the best plan that fits our unique situation was probably the hardest part.

What do you love about working with Benefit & Financial Strategies?

The process was very smooth and straightforward. We obviously work in this industry, but hospitality is not always very hospitable. It’s always refreshing when we receive such excellent support from others, reflecting the same level of care we strive to provide. We appreciate Veronica’s quick responses and how she listened to our specific needs based on our situation and what we were looking for. She is always professional, responsive, clear, and provides accurate information!
