Making a Splash with Group Benefits | Big Park Water Company Case Study

May 22, 2024

Big Park Water Company (BPWC) is a family-owned and operated business and the principal provider of water utility service in the Village of Oak Creek. Offering great benefits is part of the reason that people choose to stay with a company for over 40 years, and with the support of our team, BPWC’s employees have them.

Dottie Talkington, the accountant and office manager for BPWC, was kind enough to share her experience working with us for the company’s group benefits.

Let's Get to Know Dottie

What do you do for fun?

I like to camp, do half marathons, read, crochet, and cook! My husband and I also prospect for gold.

What about work is fun?

I enjoy working with the people in our office and providing a necessary service to our community. As the office manager and accountant, I like putting the books together and having everything balanced the first time.

What advice would you give yourself at age 18?

Stay in school! Get your degree early while you are in the habit of studying and don’t have other parts of life distracting you.

What’s your favorite season in Oak Creek, and why?

I love fall in Oak Creek because the temperature gets cooler, the leaves start to turn, and it’s not as windy. Spring is great, too, but I know it’s just going to get hotter!

The Value of Offering Benefits to Your Team

What does it mean to your employees to have benefits available?

It’s huge. Especially here, there is nowhere else where you can get the kind of benefits that we have. Especially for a company this size!

What was the greatest challenge of being able to offer benefits to your team?

The cost is substantial to the owners, but it has been worth it to have such little turnover and to take care of the employees and their families. We have one guy in the field who has been here 40 years, another who has been here for over 30 years, I’ve been here for 18 years, and our two newest people have both been here for five years.

What do you love about working with Benefit & Financial Strategies?

Veronica is the greatest. If I have any questions, I go to Veronica. Not only does she give me the answer, but she says, “Here, let me just take care of that for you.” Whether it’s a form that needs to be filled out or a new regulation that comes in, she takes care of all of that for us.
